A New Blog for the 2008-09 Season

Tryouts are mostly done and scrimmages start soon. It's a new season, and we're kicking off a new Blog at a new web address: http://thewmhsh.blogspot.com/

Without getting into the minutia, we needed to change the address and wanted to do a Web address that wouldn't give you carpal tunnel every time you needed to type it in. So we made it simple. Bookmark it. Write it down. Pass it on.

The new site will be like the old one with a few differences. We've figured out how to use technology so we can post live-in game updates on the site via text messaging and email. And we'll be expanding the use of photos and video throughout the season. Most importantly, we have more bloggers coming on board...fans and followers of teams around West Michigan who are going to blog, post and update all on what's up in West Michigan High School Hockey.

All are being asked to maintain our philosophy of "positive objectivity" -- a phrase coined by one Bill Hicks of Mona Shores that has become our credo. There's enough bad news and snarkiness in the mainstream media and on MLIVE. The Blog wants to keep it real and keep it positive. If you want to Blog about a team or a conference, please send me a note: brian.h.edwards@gmail.com.

We'll keep on keeping on with many of the mainstays from last year, including Players of the Week, Hockey Night in West Michigan (moved from Saturday to Friday this year), updated standings, stats and news pulled from a variety of sources and linked here for your convenience.

Before we kick off next year, the Blogger spent a few minutes going back through last year's WMHSH Blog to remember what it was we did exactly. The quick stroll down the digital memory lane helped me remember some of the 100+ games I went to, and all the great people I got to meet and stories I got to watch unfold. The OK2 conference race going down to the wire. East GR losing its first 10 and then turning it around to be the hottest team in town. EK pulling its goalie in a tie game against Mona. The Portage Classic. Dallas Covasos, the senior equipment manager who got into a game and scored an empty netter. Clayton Brackett, in tears, after GRCC was eliminated in the quarters. And I will never forget the surreal yet joyous game played by Forest Hills Northern/Eastern in the D-2 quarterfinals, just days after two classmates had passed away unexpectedly. I still get a lump in my throat thinking about it.

But that was last year, and a new season is upon us. Let's get it started. Visit the new blogsite and say hello.

What do you guys know about hockey prep schools in Canada? My son wanted to go to OHA in Penticton until I discovered what a cesspool of drugs and porn are at OHA and their teams lose all the time.

shocking stuff. It's best to stick with hockey in the Northeast.
