It's here.
Tryouts started today, with some kids hitting the ice at 5:45 a.m. Guess I could have done the Dickie V thing and had a big "midnight madness" blog, but to my knowledge, no one was on the ice at 12:01 a.m. today.
The next few days will be a tough time for players and coaches alike. Some players will have their best performances and some will not. Coaches will see things and miss things. Some kids on the bubble won't make their team, and some will. Parents will bitch about "politics," and coaches will make some decisions that they'll second-guess. It's an imperfect process, tryouts are. Kind of like electing a president. All you can do is show up, do your best and let the rest sort itself out.
Good luck to players and coaches. When you're done at the end of tryouts, take a moment to reflect on something the great coach from the University of Wisconsin -- Badger Bob Johnson -- used to say every single day: "It's a great day for hockey!"

Time to get going!!!
Blogger, are you going to cover the Northern Michigan Hockey League, the conference that includes Manistee, MCC/SL/NM (Muskegon Catholic), TC Bay Reps, Mid Michigan Storm, and Cheboygan, this year?
I need information on the Northern Michigan Hockey League! Can someone please email me contact information on the teams. I will see Coach Rabbit from MCC this weekend, but have yet to talk to the new coach from the TC Reps or Manistee.
