Big North Conference Predictions

Okay, let's just put it on the table: The Blog didn't do a very good job covering the BNC last year. And that's a shame. Because the teams from Traverse City West, Traverse City Central, Petoskey, and Cadillac clearly are from the west side of the state. They are West Michigan teams -- and very good ones at that. And despite its location smack dab in the middle of the state, Gaylord is like an adopted sibling for West Michigan, especially the D-3 teams that make the trip to the 45th parallel each December. Even Alpena has a place near and dear to the heart of West Michiganders who've made the 4.5 hour trip northeast for the showcase tournaments at Northern Lights.

So the Blog pledges to do a better job covering the Big North Conference teams in 2008-09 season. But, as the great Jerry McGuire said: "Help me, help YOU!" Use the comments section here to fill in your predictions and thoughts on the players and teams from the BNC.

I like West, good overall talent, hungry players w/ fire in their bellies. TCC will be tough again, but West should prevail in the end! As for D3 schools, Gaylord over Cadillac. There will be more upsets in the league than most years!

West! Not this year TC Central and Gaylord battle it out. Alpena down, Cadillac down, Petoskey down. West lost Snider (Marquette) and Weitrick (moved to Central). Alpena lost some really good seniors. Cadillac lost Rafale (Gilmour), team has coaching issues. Petoskey lost the Gravadoni boys (Soo), in the end it will TC Central and they should contend for another state championship.

I say TCC and Gaylord battle it out for the Big North. Gaylord is loaded with seniors and a new coach. Gaylord and TCC play each other right away.

Wietrick is no loss to West.

How is petosky looking this year?

Really a hidden issue with Gaylord goaltending. The returning senior split time last year, but he seems pretty laid back. He can have an awsome game one night, and look completley different the next, and not really seem to care. The back-up goalie had one game last year, so the netminder could be a Blue Devil issue. Loaded seniors up front that have played together for 4-years, but never clicked last year.....very strange, as they were fine during their frosh and soph years. Defense was young last year, but played better than expected, Ryan on the blue-line is an up and coming player in the Big North, as a soph this year. Should be a fun season.

How many players were missing from Gaylord's team this past weekend in Big Rapids? It seemed they had more players there on Sunday than they did on Friday night.

Gaylord had about 11 skaters plus a goalie, most of the soccer/football players did not make the trip, as well as a few others missing
