nice to see this for the kids who don't have all-conference or were left out of the all-state opportunities. I am glad I didn't have to make a pick for goalie, that must have been a tough choice.

Tiefenthal over Young all day every day. Just my opinion...

Anonymous said...

Maybe if RP played a schedule like MS this would look a little different but thats not the case, both are great goalies but the schedule should be considered as well as just stats.

Anonymous said...

haha Manistee...? Kinda far from the area you think?

Anonymous said...

manistee co op team plays outta ludington, so no its not really outta the area. they have shelby, ludington, manistee, hart, and mason county central. now if u think about it, one of those schools are in the muskegon county area. just let it be.

Marine should have been higher up than Tiefenthal

ps, kittredge had like 1 good game

Anonymous said...

marine higher than tiefenthal? wow, considering that really tough schedule mcc plays. any educated person would obviously say tiefenthal is the best area goaltender.

Just another case of trying to do something good for kids in a game that is meant for kids and someone has to knock it down. What are we doing?? Let it be a game for the kids and quit trying to live your childhood over again. IT'S FOR THE KIDS!! I'm proud of evry name on the list. Congrats gentlemen.

T on top. Marine 2nd. Both got better as the year went on. Young just hung on.

do you kiss your mother with that mouth?

mona definitely gave up way more than 10-15 shots a game trust me, besides games vs gh rp n mcc. they were outshot more often than not, so dont say tiefenthal didnt face very many shots because he did, including 25+ in 8 of 9 conference games so don't talk when you don't know what your talking about.

Anonymous said...

Young is only in 10th grade, and his save percentage is in the 90's. If you look at the game stats, RP was out shot almost every single game. Young was a wall for the Puff and deserves 1st team.

Anonymous said...

dan brady should have made all confrence.

Anonymous said...

yeah and Marine is a freshmen, solid goaltender for years to come

Anonymous said...

RP played some tough competition, you have to factor that in with his stats. They played Grand Haven, MCC, Forest Hills Central, Kenowa Hills, Mona Shores. Who has that Mona team played?

Anonymous said...

well why would mona play those teams? even though they did play all of them except for kenawa there teir one so you should be very proud of the teams you played and got beatin by if they were a tier one team and not in your confrence cept for rockford of corse and r-p lost all of their games against teir one teams. You could say that these teams didnt have 20-1 records but they bolth play teams where they try and get better they didnt play some teams no one had ever heard of all year and win most of them and then lose to rp when they had a shot at them but didn't prepare at all for it so.I guess you can say a lot about a little but it don't really matter to anyone 5 minutes after reading it.

Are you kidding. Mona played Trenton (State Champs), Orchard Lake (State Champs) FHNE (State Final Four), Brother Rice, Marquette (State Champs) Grosse Pointe North (Quarter Finals). Should I keep going????

Anonymous said...

ask mona when they beat those teams besides FHNE and orchard lake once? and can i get the score of the grosse point north game?

walt

Anonymous said...

alright walt why don't you just shut up. i don't see anyone else from muskegon area playing anyone even close to these teamsthat mona plays. if i remember correctly mcc and rp play teams like oxford northview, mattawan, you know real high quiality teams that go really far in playoofs. more than half of the teams on monas' schedule made it to the quarterfinals or further. also played gpn 3 times 4-2, 5-3 then 8-0 but what teams dont have bad games i mean marquette had a great team and won a co state championship and they lost to trenton 8-1 in showcase? sounds like walt is somewhat ignorant.

Anonymous said...

What was the score of those games when RP or MCC or anyone in the "area" played them? Oh I forgot, they didn't play them.

Anonymous said...

kittredge should be in gh left him out to dry this year and he saved their ass most of the time, marine over kitt thats a joke, marine really had to face some good time with that hard schedule of mcc....

As far as goalie choice goes, begining of the season it would have went to Young. He was great in the start of the season. As the season progressed, I would definately change it to Tiefenthal. After Christmas he really turned his game around and carried it throughout the rest of the season. I probably would have given #1 to Tiefenthal, but that's just me. It was really a toss up because of his slow start. Next year I expect to see these 3 goalies play exceptionally well.

WORD
R-P and MCC suck i guess.

-Walt
but the reason mcc and rp dont play those teams is because their tryout is there team they dont get 80 kids to chose from rp had like 3 kids on their team that had played travel and mcc had about 6 or 7 every single kid on mona played travel when they were a young cup. So should we not expect them to play some what harder teams then mcc and rp?

Anonymous said...

Mona is always expected to do better than all the other area teams. But that has nothing to do with the fact they play a tougher schedule. Their record was similiar to RP's and MCC's, but their schedule was much, much harder than either of those two teams. And yes, Mona does get a lot of kids at their tryouts, but only about half of the kids at the tryout have high school level speed and skills. Mona is a better team than RP and MCC, hands down. I would gladly like to see any proof against that.

Anonymous said...

How bout those cowboys?
-walt

Anonymous said...

but really you did make my point.

Anonymous said...

we(ms) only had like 32 players at our tryouts last year, and 24 made the team so we realllllly didn't have 80 kids tryout like someone made it sound. maybe you should know what you are talking about.

Whoever is complaining about Marine getting HM over Kitt, here are some facts:
Mona Shores (Common Opponent)
Marine: 3 goals, 40 some shots
Kitt: 9 goals, 30 shots
The numbers speak for themselves.

Anonymous said...

and marine is a young freshman, and kitt. is a senior

Shots on goal....unless you have researched "HOW" to correctly do them, are usually inflated at the high school level. I do know that GH shot totals were accurate...as compared to reading the comicals stories the next days. You also have to take into consideration that "quality" of the shots...this can be very deceiving when it comes to reading the story the next day and not realizing where the shots came from....(i.e) blue line, or 5 ft in front of the net...multiple times following numerous saves by the goalie. In the case of marine vs. kitt....yes marine played out of his mind in the shores game...but had is own bad games, as did kitt......(shores game)....BUT, the team in front of kitt played a HUGH part in the quality of shots...which, by the way was more than 30....and much more quality than kitt would have liked...I am sure. It is all relevant, but I think the issue really is over all, and not just one game....this, plus the stats (if anyone took the time to look at them...which I have) would prove the point that kitt should have been on the list somewhere. Reality is, that as time goes on, the list will mean nothing...just like a trophy for a tournament that is gathering dust and eventually ends up in the garage somewhere....but if you are going to recognize players...do it fairly....with some thought, and not because someone lobbied hard to get on it.....good luck to all the underclassmen that are playing next year.......

Sour Grapes!!! I'm amazed at the insensitivity of some of these remarks. Did you ever think maybe one of these goalies might read these comments? As with any award, there are always people that think someone else was as deserving or more deserving of the honor. All I can say is congratulations to Eddie and Tommy and to the other young men who earned recognition that they rightfully deserved.

Anonymous said...

how many people are from gh, mcc, rp, or shores that are talking. seriously. i played for one of the teams. i would say for goalies tiefenthal, young, and then marine. i played against kitt. twice this year, dont get me wrong, he held his team in alot of games, but at the end he would let in some goals that shouldnt have gone in. everyone does it i no, but the three goalies def. deserve it forgetting what year of high school there in

Anonymous said...

agreed. i was fortunate enough to have been able to shoot on all four goalies this year. Tief much more than the other 3. With that said, and in trying to be as unbiased as possible, i would rank them like this: 1. Tiefenthal (made Team West Michigan, plays the puck well, good angles and moves side to side fairly well) 2. Marine (for a freshman this kid can stop em. Held us(MS) to a 1-0 game after 2 which no one saw coming. his tacticts maybe be a little different, i.e. lots of flopping and hoping, but he gets it done) 3. Young (just didnt show me anything special. he stops the ones he needs to with an occasional slip) 4. Kitteredge (didnt play very good angles and stayed far back in the net allowing for many goals. also didnt play the puck well)

Just my opinion. all are exceptional goalies dont get me wrong, but that is just how i would rank them.

Anonymous said...

im going to have to agree with your opinion, marine plays well for a freshmen, kittredge isnt anything special at all, get in his head and you are set for the rest of the game

Anonymous said...

It's obvious to me that mostly MS and GH playres are reading and responding to these biased comments. It's good to see that the players goalie "protection" goes beyond the ice. Goalie is the toughest spot on the ice, you win your the hero . . .you lose well . . .you're the goat! Having said that I congratulate all the goalies (no matter the award placement) for going out game after game and giving it there all! Keep up the good job! Good luck Kitt as you graduate.

Any word on who made Team Michigan? I heard a few local players tried out.

Anonymous said...

well said....(11:09 post)....it does take a special individual to go out day after day, whether your team supports you or not...and maintain the composure needed to keep your head in the game. well said!
