The WMHSH Blogger didn't grow up in Michigan and that's really no excuse, but when I kept noticing that Manistee was playing teams here in town, it occurred to me that I should look at a map. Oops. I guess a town that sits on Lake Michigan between Muskegon and Traverse City really should be covered by a blog that throws around the phrase "West Michigan" so loosely. So I've added the Chippewa's schedule to the links section and can tell you that it's a co-op team started two years ago with players from 5 lakeshore schools -- Manistee, Ludington, Hart, Shelby and Mason County Central. They do have a team website and they play their home games at the West Shore Ice Arena. You can sometimes find coverage of their games in the Ludington Daily News, where today's top headline is: "Hog on the lam chased for hours." (I don't make this stuff up, people.)
While my geographic ignorance can explain the oversight on Manistee, I have no excuses for leaving the Traverse City Bay Reps co-op team off the coverage map. I have seen them play (last year against GRCC) and I love their Ottawa Senators-looking logo. They're coached by a legend, MHSHCA Hall of Famer Rex Luxton, and they play a very competitive schedule. The Reps get Caddy and Grandville this weekend up at Centre Ice. Good seats still available.
My apologies to both teams.
