Players of the Week

Luke Swardenski, forward/FHNE - The junior had 4 goals -- two at even strength and two on the PP -- in Forest Hills Northern/Eastern's conference win over Rockford on Saturday night. He scored the last three of the game to complete the natural hat trick.

Dominic Lefere, defense/GRCC -- The junior defenseman logged a ton of icetime in wins over West Catholic and Big Rapids because the Cougars were missing two of their top four d-men in the games. He used the extra ice to good advantage, going +7 with 3 assists in the games.

Chris Sandmeyer, defense, Portage Central -- Another junior defenseman gets props. In a 3-2 win over UDJ, Sandmeyer had a goal and was +2. In a 6-2 league win over the Eagles, he scored the crucial first goal of the game and was +2.

Ekco Morgan, forward, East Grand Rapids -- The senior forward got EGR on the board with a breakaway goal and then assisted on the game-winner in a 4-3 win over East Kentwood. He also netted a goal in a closer-than-expected 3-2 win over Jenison Saturday to help the Pioneers go 2-0 on the week.

Ryan Wysocki, goalie, Grandville -- The junior stopped all 40 shots against him to earn a 1-0 shutout over Rochester United. Wysocki had to be sharp as Grandville had only 6 shots on the opposition's net throughout three periods.

Honorary Mentions: Hat tricks this week for Jared Hook of Portage Central and, for the second consecutive week, Paul Ziemke of GRCC....Ottawa-Union goalie Tim Zmudka had 47 saves to keep O-U close in a 4-3 loss to Northview...Kenowa Hills' Joe Hankins had PP goal, a shorthanded goal and an assist against the Midland Chemics...Muskegon Catholic Central's Evan Valk scored a goal in each of the two Crusader wins last week, including the game-winner against Grand Haven.

Kudos to Wysocki. Nice to see a player get recognized on a .500 or below team. Easily one of the top 'tenders in Tier 1.Also is playing on the youngest team in Tier 1.
