MHSHCA 2007-2008 All State Honors

The 2008 MHSHCA All State Honors list is out. Actually, it's been out. I'm told they were passing out the list down at Compuware yesterday during the games, which came as a surprise to some of the coaches I've spoken with. Typically, the coaches are given the chance to talk to their players first before the all-state lists are distributed. I decided to wait until tonight to give West Michigan coaches the opportunity to share the good news directly with their players who've earned the all-state honors.

At any rate, the following represents a list of the 44 West Michigan high school hockey players who earned all-state recognition for the 2007-2008 season. Congratulations go to each player on the list, as well as many who were not on the list. There were some names that I was (pleasantly) surprised to see on the lists and there were a few shocking omissions (e.g., not a single player from Mona Shores?!) I know that Blog readers will have comments on this list, so please feel free, but keep it positive. You can question the coaches for leaving players off, but don't question them for putting players on!

not one player from mona shores? 7 players on team west michigan from mona yet not one is all-state...i am surprised.

Anonymous said...

ohhic, that would make sense.

Anonymous said...

If that's the case, that really sucks!

Anonymous said...

no one from EGR either...

Anonymous said...

Not one from Lowell Caldonia either. Shucks!

Anonymous said...

2 player from Lowell/Caledonia were honorable mention. So get your facts straight!

Team West Michigan was a joke. The facts:

23 of the 26 players that made the team played for the coaches that were evaluators, thats 88.5 %

11 of the players that made Team WM didn't even make all state Honorable Mention.

There were 12 kids that tried out for Team WM that didn't make it, that did get All State recognition. Unfortunately none of them played for the coaches that did the evaluating.
Congratulations to all the kids that made All State !

Maybe Team WM would win a few more games and represent us better if they truly picked the best players.

Can we get the full list please?

Your post is a joke. Mona had 6 or 7 players on team WM and not one of their coaches was an evaluator, the only team with coaches evaluating was GRCC.

Anonymous said...

The Team WM was put together by Portage Central's coach with input from several other coaches, including GRCC.

And adding to my last post about the critic, I'm sure all team WM needed to win more games was you or your son who DIDN'T MAKE THE TEAM.

Stop putting kids down for not getting all-state when 4 of them were sophomores, some playing their first season of high school hockey.

I will agree that there were some shady players picked for team WM, probably b/c their coach was an evaluator. That's just what hockey has come to these days. Get over it :]

who should have recieved all-state honors that didn't? whether it be due to late paper work or what have you..

Anonymous said...

can we get the full list?

Anonymous said...

There were seven players on team WM from GRCC, and five of them made all state. The other two who didnt make the all-state couldnt make it because a they played forward and a team can only have three forwards and GRCC already had three forwards make first team all state.

anyone from cranbrook

should have been atleast some h.m. from east

complain about system & then help fix it. Many players not on list are deserving. Don't take away from those on list. It is a game. What the heck does blogger have to do with it - he just reported results.

not even an MS player on HM squad? Something truly is rotten in Denmark.

Anonymous said...

these are only the all-state players from west michigan correct?
there are many others from the eastern side of the state?

Anonymous said...

Rumor has it that clerical errors kept MS players off the ballot. Adult error and kids suffered. MHSAA Coaching Association needs repair.

Congratulations to all of the EGR team members for achieving All-State Highest Team GPA. Nice job boys!!

to the 10th post, no you are wrong. Mona's coach from last year was one of the coaches who picked the team, so really that would still count b/c he knew all the kids from Mona.

mona was academic all state as well...

hudsonville was academic all state

saying that the coaches assosiation needs repair is like changing the engine on a car with a flat tire, if coaches don't submit kids the other coaches can't select them. I don't know why Mona didn't have any kids on the ballet but I don't think you can blame the other 100+ coaches that did. Maybe the past has truly caught up with the present.

Reeths Puffer also was Academic All State. Congratulations to all the players selected for All State honors. Good going Ben and Eddie, can't wait to see you guys play next season!!

A proud RP parent.

One final game? The all state honorable mention team vs 1st and
2nd teamers. High noon at Patterson. Anyone want to bet on the outcome?

Anonymous said...

Very funny. Add some of the Ac honorable mentions and take some of the State honorable mentions off (coach's son) and I know who my money would be on

Forest Hills Northern/Eastern was all state academic for the 4th straight year

Rockford Academic All-State team also. Sam Kreuze Academic All-State with a 4.3 gpa.

Like to see system change. If there are many deserving players on any team, any division, they should win honors. limiting how many from any team does not show the best WMHS players. all coaches/players know who the best are.

Anonymous said...

Don't worry about it. It is rare that it occurs with that many All State caliber players on a single team. Kentwood had the same situation last year. The system is fine. CC was fairly represented in the final list.

agree change is needed. best players from MI. should be on list even if many come from one HS in any year. current system nice. not real based on who best players are.
