The 3rd annual Rivalry Cup was all Blades tonight as they defeated league rival Kalamazoo Eagles 5-1. Brian Figgins got things rolling only 3 minutes into the game when he buried a pass from Aleks Jogerst. At 9:25 of the first period, Tyler Hatfield scored the eventual game winner with a wrister over the shoulder of Eagles goalie, Joe Ballmer. Dan Merkle and Scotty Simmons added two more 1st period goals for the Blades who skated into the second period with a 4 goal lead.
The Eagles switched goalies to begin the 2nd period and Tom Grieves did a great job allowing only 1 goal on 15 shots. Simmons scored the Blades final goal at the 6:05 mark. Eagles Kane Smith helped his team avoid the shutout when he stole the puck and beat Blades goalie John Lloyd for an unassisted goal. Lloyd ended the game stopping 23 of the 24 shots he faced.
