Wayland took a quick 3-0 first period lead on goals from Tyler Schneider, Ayden Lawrence, and Randy Beck. In the second period, Wayland became a little undisciplined taking three penalties and giving up two power play goals to the Eagles, scored by AJ Hammond and Tyler Ankney. 3-2 after the second. It looked like Wayland was going to pull away in the third period on a goal by Ross Hinkle, but two minutes later, Wayland gave up a third power play goal to Zack Mutual of the Eagles making it 4-3 with just over 8 minutes left in the game. The Eagles had a faceoff in the Wayland zone with under 1 minute to play and called a time out. They pulled their goalie. After a hard fought battle, Schneider got the insurance marker with an empty net goal with 16 seconds left. Wayland's freshman 'tender Brandon Sopjes played the best game of his young career, making 21 saves on the night. Joe Ballmer of the Eagles took the loss, despite making 14 saves on 18 shots.
