Rockford 6 Grandville 0

Interesting situation here, as I received updates from correspondents at both Rockford and Grandville. So here are both, in their unedited forms. Pretty balanced reporting in my opinion.

STORY 1: Rockford and Grandville faced off tonight in a game with multiple story lines. It was a league game, McMichigan Cup Tournament game and a game to see who stays in Tier 1 for next year. The game started slow with both teams exchanging few scoring chances. Rockford got on the board towards the end of the first on a all hustle goal by Andrew Beeg with Sam Krueze assisting. The second period saw Rockford add 2 more golas from Mason Mcgillicudy and Adam Hoard. The third period saw more domination by Rockford by scoring 2 quick goals by Noah Greco and Travis Guest. The Rams chased Grandville goalie Ryan Wysocki with 8:50 to go in the game. Wysocki finishes the game stopping 16 of 21 shots faced. Sophmore goalie Nathan Pratt stops 12 of 13 shots faced. Brandon Ryfiak scores Rockford's final goal. Rockfords goalie Forrest Andrus stops all 10 shots and gets a little help from the "goalies best friend" to earn the shutout. Rockford faces the winner of the of Jenison/Reeth's Puffer while Grandville plays the loser.

STORY 2: Rockford picks up a nice OK Tier 1 conference win and tournament win in the opener of the McMichigan Cup. Slow pace in the 1st period as both teams seemed to be suffering from multiple snow days and missed practices. Andrew Beeg got the Rams off to a 1-0 lead with a goal midway though the 1st period in an evenly played period.

The pace picked up in the 2nd period as Mason McGillicuddy and Adam Hoard both scored to give the Rams a 3-0 lead after 2. Rockford seemed to dominate play from the midpoint of the period as the Rams won most of the battles and threw numerous shots toward the Grandville tender Ryan Wysocki.
The 3rd period was all Rams with goals by Shea Mills, Travis Guest, and Brandon Ryfiak which extended the lead to 6-0. Rockford outshoots Grandville 29-11. Forrest Andrus and Christian Van Portfliet share the shutout for the Rams. Excellent defensive play and goaltending once again for the Rams as they get their 5th shutout of the season.
