Wayland vs. Northview

Rolled down to Southside this afternoon to check out this OK-Tier 3 matchup. Northview avenged a loss to Wayland a week earlier with a 6-3 win in league play. Have to admit, part of my curiosity was to see how good a player that Northview's Carolyn Harwood is. She's a senior and has two younger brothers on the team. She's only about 5'2", but is a good skater, goes hard to the net and doesn't back away from contact. She's #4 in the black jersey, and there are some good shots of her mixing it up with Wayland's players -- though I did miss the shot where a Wayland player nearly knocked her into the penalty box.

The curiosity of a girl high school player aside, Northview and Wayland played a pretty fun game. Lots of end-to-end action and no shortage of scoring, with Carolyn's brother, junior Steve Harwood turning a hat trick in the game. Kyle Schutte, the Northview goalie, was kind of the difference maker here. He had 26 saves, including a few acrobatic ones highlighted by diving stop with the paddle that had the Wayland coaches groaning. Not a bad way to spend a few hours on a snowy Saturday afternoon.
