Grandville's Grypma to Soo Thunderbirds

Looks like there will be some serious West Michigan rivalry up in the Soo this winter, as another local player has signed with an NOJHL team up north. Andy Grypma from Grandville high school has just signed with the Soo Thunderbirds Jr A hockey team in the NOJHL. Andy lead the Bulldogs in scoring for the last two years and earned first team all conference and second team all state honors in 07/08. Andy will be competing against fellow Grandville teammate Tom Lorenz (Soo Eagles) this upcoming season. Off the ice, will be classmates at Lake Superior State University. Grandville coach Mike Bynski sends this note: "The Grandville coaching staff and hockey boosters wish both Andy and Tom the best of luck this year in their both athletic and academic pursuits."

Congrats to Andy. Couldn't have happened to a nicer kid. Consumate team player. Look up "captain" in the dictionary and his picture will be there. Way to go and we look forward to watching you and Tom Lorenz this season.

Andy, both Therese and I are so happy for you and your family. We both know you have worked very hard in preparing for this next level of hockey. We look forward to watching you as well as the other West Michigan players up at the Sioux. I'm sure you will also do well with your classed at LSSU.

Gary and Therese Lorenz
