Got an email today letting me know that 2007 East Kentwood grad and Michigan Dream Team member Eric Alexander had made a verbal commitment to attend Ferris State and play hockey. The 6'2" 200-lb. forward has been playing for the Chicago Steel of the USHL this season, along with a few other 2007 Michigan high school grads: Will Weber (Gaylord), Tim Buttery (Detroit Catholic Central) and Andrew Miller (Crankbrook).
I confirmed the news with a well-placed source: Eric's mom, Patty. She's been a Blog reader and has sent me some emails with interesting insights on "what it takes" to try to get a D-1 scholarship. Here's what she told me (in an email) today: "It has been Eric's goal to play Division 1 College Hockey in the CCHA or WCHA for many years. The deciding factor for Eric was the personal interaction with the Coaching Staff and Players during his visit. They have an amazing group of players who know how to work hard and win. Seeing FSU beat top ranked teams, like Miami of Ohio, Notre Dame, and Michigan told us they can compete with anyone and win. They are first class and we're excited he's going to be playing with them in 2009 as well as beginning his college education."

Best of luck Eric. Ferris got a good one. Ferris looks like they are getting more and more competitive. They took two games from Miami and one from Michigan. Could be a national contender in a couple of years. You will be a great player for them.
