The final tune up before MHSAA Pre-Regional action in Kalamazoo was won by Portage Northern this afternoon. East Lansing put up a valiant effort in the opening period, but could not keep up with the Huskies relentless offense in the final two periods. Northern's three captains led all scorers in this contest. Nicco Braganini (3 goals), Kevin Campbell (1 goal, 4 assists), Doug Wheelright (1 goal, 3 assists) were the #1, #2, and #3 stars of the game. Josh Ruggles (2 goals, 1 assist) and Rob Fender (2 assists) earned honorable mention.
East Lansing's Jake Pratt looked like he was going to keep this contest close. Ultimately, he faced 50 shots and couldn't stop the fierce Husky attack. Drew Irwin, Michael Abbott and Kyle Wecesser scored the Trojans 3 goals. Billy Naylor, who saw 14 Trojan shots, earned the victory.
