Mona Shores 3 Muskegon Catholic Central 0

The WMHSH Blogger notes: "For all the critics of the raving blogger, I wanted to let you know that he wrote the post below as a quick update. Call it proof that he's 1.) not biased and 2.) capable of being pithy. I am hoping he'll give us some literary love tomorrow."

Muskegon Catholic Central played an inspired game and freshman 'tender Tommy Marine was tall in net for MCC. Mona threw 42 shots at Marine vs. 10 for MCC. Score was only 1-0 MS after 2 periods. Strange bounce off the glass on a shot by MCC in the third, which sailed just wide left of Shores net as Scottie Tiefenthal moved to his right to play the shooter. We call that a Lakeshore bounce.

MS goals by David Coppock in first at 5:51, assisted by Kyle Hicks and Brett Grevel; then back to back goals by Taylor Moore in the third, at 5:28 assisted by Tyler McCarl and again at 9:54, assisted by Grevel. Nice defensive effort by Ryan Mylenek who blocked eight shots for game.

The kid blocked 8 shots.....now that is impressive. I blocked 1 shot in my mens league last night and I will promise you I will not do that again. My foot is killin me. Nice job!

Not to mention 4 in one shift on the PK. Rhino unleashed the beast tonight.

Give it up for Taylor Moore. He is on a roll. Looks like MS vs GH on Wednesday. Wow - GH pulls off the shocker over Puffer!

Let it be said that MCC- which consists of about 3 chiefs travel players, a goalie darn near out of junior high, and a bunch of Norton Shores Rec players- gave the powerhouse Sailor squad a run for their money. The defense for MCC was huge- when EVERY kid at shores played travel hockey compared to the "sign ups" that MCC has-the score should have been a blow out. I think the Catholic boys earned, and surely deserve, respect from the hockey community.

Could have been, should have been; it's the team with the most goals at the end of the game who wins, regardless of how many. Your post is demeaning to both teams. It doesn't matter how many kids did or didn't play travel and it doesn't matter where the kids came from. Yes, MCC played a great game but they had the respect of the hockey community before last night.

MCC not only has respect from the hockey community but respect of Mona Shores players and coaches, MS knew Patty would have them ready to play, and he did. These games are bigger than the records of both teams all year or who they played, they are friends playing against friends(until there on the ice that is) in these type of games you can count no one out or say it will be a blowout.

I disagree with the demeaning retort. I believe the reader was right on . . .Mona Shores players have a great deal of experience in travel hockey, not to mention elite camps and the such. The writer was only pointing out that MCC, lacking that depth of experience played gutsy, heart and soul hockey. That shouldn't demean either team. "Shores" fans are to sensitive! Lighten up people. (I am not affliated with MS or MCC)

You are absolutely correct, the only thing alluded to was the fact that MCC played a hell of a game with the limited talent that they had, and "hats off" to the phenomenal coaching staff from Catholic. Several shores students had to be reminded to "show some class" while spouting demeaning comments about the crusader team. I think MCC gained some respect in the eyes of those arrogant children with the battle they gave. As you said- nothing is a given, and it was a good race to the end!

i believe you have your teams switched around. not that it matters now because the game is over as well as MCC's season, but the members of the MCC/SL/NM/UI/OP/HG/JK/LOL student section were in fact the ones yelling rude things and chanting about opposing players

Why is it assumed that because you play for Mona Shores that you somehow have an advantage over other programs in the area? The players work just as hard and the coaching staff is as dedicated as any. If there is any magic Mona Shores hockey dust it's from the steel of the player's skates as they work to get better and better.

same with MCC football, minus the steel dust.

I hate to tell you people that are trying to start something.NOT one player from either team said one bad thing about each other period! they share the same locker room shower ,the coaches are friends. It was a good game by good kids, good coaches, and good parents.

Helmet dust, maybe? Great game by both teams. Good luck MCC seniors, Adam P., Erin C., etc. You did yourselves proud.

Dust from the ground-up dirt off their cleats

oh and the student sectoin.. was 80% mcc kids and i did not hear anything negative towards mona's players, (other than the obvious highschool chants) it was a fun game to be a part of and who cares what or how many schools made up the student section, they had great support give them credit.

The MCC boys may not have all the travel players(by the way there is more than 3) but they have more HEART than any team I know. They showed they can play with the big boys and hats off to the coaching staff. They gave them boys more than hockey skills and they will take that with them the rest of there lives. They do deserve the respect from others!

MCC played from their hearts and had a lot to play from. Rabbit and his hat have taken this program to another lever; hopefully, it will soon be to the level of MS as far as competition on their schedule and a recognized name across the state.
