Good matchup between a leader in the OK Tier II Conference Kenowa Hills and Tier I Rockford. Kenowa was looking to flex their muscles again versus Tier I teams after tying Kentwood and beating Forest Hills in recent weeks. Rockford was looking to see if they could extend their winning streak to 2 games after a 4 game drought.
Rockford started the scoring early in the game when Adam Hoard (assisted by Dan Cruickshank and Travis Guest) chipped one in just 2 minutes into the game. Later in the first period, Mike Bieke (unassisted) gave the Rams a 2-0 lead on a deflection off the skate of a Kenowa Hills defender. Shots on goal favored Rockford 11-6 in the 1st period.
The second period became a goaltending clinic by the Rams' Forrest Andrus and the Knights' Zac "Fuzzy" Smith. Numerous scoring chances for both teams were turned aside in the second. The period ended with Rockford still ahead 2-0 and ahead in shots on goal 23-16.
Kenowa Hills came out strong in the early third period but were unable to convert. Rockfords' Mason McGillicuddy (assisted by Cruickshank) increased the lead to 3-0 and put the game out of reach on the power play with 2 minutes left. Andrus had 22 saves for his 2nd shutout of the season.
