The 1st period of this game was outstanding and Portage Northern figured to be in for another hard fought league battle. But, in the end, the Huskies had too much fire power for the visiting Kalamazoo Eagles. Nicco Braganini continued his torrid scoring pace for Northern by netting 2 goals in the first period. Bobby Miller brought the Eagles back by banging home a rebound from a Kane Smith shot. The score at the end of period #1, Portage Northern 2 - Kalamazoo Eagles 1.
The 2nd period was totally dominated by Portage Northern. Rob Fender scored the Huskies 3rd goal of the night only 40 seconds into the period and the flood gates opened. Goals by Austin Campbell, Kevin Campbell (2 goals), Matt Duris, Josh Ruggles, and another by Fender ended the game with almost 11 minutes remaining in the 3rd. Barry Toornman was outstanding again tonight, allowing only 1 goal on 26 shots.
