Players of the Week

Drew Preston, forward/Forest Hills Central -- The senior had a natural hat trick in a critical OK-2 conference game against Kenowa Hills to lead a comeback 4-2 victory, and also helped propel the Rangers to a 7-0 league win against Grand Haven.

Adam Pieczynski, forward/Muskegon Catholic Central -- The Crusaders' forward is riding a 10-game goal-scoring streak and helped lead MCC to two wins this week. He had two goals against Cheboygan and chipped in the final goal in a 3-1 victory over West Ottawa.

Dan Cruickshank, defenseman/Rockford - The Rams' junior defenseman had 2 assists and played shutdown defense against Walker rink rival, Kenowa Hills. With only four healthy defensemen, Cruickshank logged a ton of minutes in the win.

Shane Darrow, forward/Traverse City Central -- The Trojans senior forward had 2 goals and an assist against East Kentwood in a come-from behind victory. Against Grosse Pointe South, in a game that one ref told me was one of the best high school hockey games this season, Darrow didn't make the scoresheet, but was an impact player, creating several scoring opportunities for himself and his linemates in a 2-1 loss to Grosse Pointe South.

Honorable Mentions: Grandville seniors Andy Grypma and Ian Strayer each had 3 points in the Bulldogs' 3-3 tie with the Bay Area Reps...GRCC's Paul Ziemke had his second hat trick in the month of January to help the Cougars clinch the City League title with a 7-2 win over Christian High...Forest Hills Northern/Eastern's Andrew Rennaker had a goal and four assists in a split with Livonia Stevenson and Novi...EGR's senior forward Ekco Morgan had a momentum-changing goal at the end of the second period and then scored the game-tying marker to help force OT against Hudsonville...Portage Central's Brogan Vandervelde nets his second consecutive shutout in a win over league rival, Kalamazoo Blades...Lowell-Caledonia's Jordan Steger and Bo Adams hooked up twice on goals in L/C's 5-2 win over conference rival West Ottawa.

These are the guys who made the grade last week, in the eyes of coaches, players and fans. If you have someone you think deserves mention, please post it in the comments section or shoot me an email.

I was at the rockford/kenowa game last week and I didnt think Dan Cruickshank had a good enough performance to be a player of the week. If you choose someone from rockford I think it should be the goalie that played for them.
