Players of the Week

Zac "Fuzzy" Smith, Kenowa Hills - The diminutive senior goalie was an island of calm in a frenetic, penalty-filled 3-1 win over Forest Hills Northern/Eastern. Smith had 37 saves in the contest and made a heads up pass play on a line change, which earned him an assist on the game-winning goal. Truly, this was one of the standout peformances by any local goalie this season. He also got the win against Grand Haven earlier in the week, with 19 saves.

Nicco Braganini, Portage Northern - The Huskies' senior forward had a breakout week to propel Portage Northern to important league victories over Mattawan and the Kalamazoo Blades. Over his last three contests, Braganini has 6 goals and 3 assists.

Tom Hancock, Big Rapids - The sophomore forward figured in every goal the Cardinals scored in a weekend split with Cadillac and Traverse City Bay Reps. Hancock had both goals in a 6-2 loss to Caddy, and assisted on all three goals in a 3-2 win over the TC Reps on Hockey Night.

Jon Kusava, Lowell-Caledonia - The senior forward was quite the playmaker last week, helping L/C go 2-0, including an OK conference win over Northview. Kusava had a goal and 5 assists in wins over Muskegon Catholic Central and the Wildcats.

Honorable Mentions: GRCC's Clayton Brackett had five goals and 1 assist (and an awesome on-camera interview with FOX-17) in wins over West Catholic and Traverse City Central...EGR linemates Cullen Haskins and Greg Afendoulis each had a 2 goals and an assist in a win over Reeths-Puffer, and helped EGR to a conference win over Grandville...Grand Haven's Luke Reenders had two goals and was +3 in a 4-3 loss to Kenowa Hills...Muskegon Catholic Central's Adam Pieczynski four goals, including a hat trick against Wayland, to help MCC win two this week...Forest Hills N/E's Jeff Johnston had a goal and two assists in a conference win versus Rockord and also assisted FHNE's loan goal against Kenowa Hills. If you feel like I've missed someone here, please feel free to add your player of the week in the comment section or shoot me an email.

Great selections. Watching Fuzzy Saturday afternoon he was deserving of the recognition even if I am a Forest Hills fan. Great website, this fan appreciates your hard work and efforts in maintaining it. Thank you.

West Catholic's Chris Gietzen's hat trick in a solid win over Christian is worthy of recognition.
