Forest Hills Central 4 Kenowa Hills 2

Things just got really interesting in the OK Conference Tier 2, with FHC winning a 4-2 contest over the previously undefeated Knights. For a while, it looked like a typical Kenowa Hills game. They were getting outshot by a large margin and Forest Hills Central was just buzzing in the offensive zone, but Knights' goaltender Zac "Fuzzy" Smith kept it close at 1-0.

Then Kenowa got on the powerplay and scored quickly (Schievink from Vinny Klein and Eric Dye). A few minutes later, Kenowa got another powerplay opportunity and scored just 11 seconds into it (while the penalty is being announced), this one is Austin Weih from Travis Nichol and Schievink. Suddenly, Kenowa was up 2-1, despite being outshot 32-8. Forest Hills, which had been buzzing in the offensive zone for nearly two periods, had to be scratching its head and feeling a little demoralized.

Or maybe not. FHC came right back and evened it up within 30 seconds on a goal by Drew Preston, who took the feed from Evan Hess and drove hard to the net to beat Smith. Morgan Feenie also assisted on the play.

The teams headed into the third knotted at 2-2. The third period seemed less lopsided, in part because there was a rash of penalties. The teams skated 4-on-4 several times and, at one point, it was briefly 3-0n-3. FHC used its speed and explosiveness, as Preston score twice in the middle of the period, and that was all she wrote. Preston's natural hat trick turned a 2-1 deficit into a 4-2 win for the Rangers, with Feenie assisting on all three and Evan Hess assisting on two. Steven Hohs got the win for Forest Hills, turning aside 10 shots, including a key save on a breakaway with Kenowa trying to regain momentum late in the third. Final shots were 45-12, according to the scoresheet.

With the win, FHC moves to 3-1-1 (7 points), which ties them with Reeths-Puffer for second in the conference. Both teams trail Kenowa and Hudsonville (both 4-1) by a point in the standings. Pix and scoresheet are below. TV highlights courtesy of Fox are here.

Great win for FHC. They have been playing well. Too bad Kentwood and them didn't square off this year. It would have been a doozy and lot's of friends between the 2 teams....players and coaches alike. You think coach Hausch would have liked to beat Kentwood? Maybe next year. Congrat's!!
