Cadillac 6 Big Rapids 2

Cadillac drives away with its second win against Big Rapids this year, this time a 6 to 2 victory on the strength of 3 shorthanded goals from the Cadillac tandom of Jimmy Morris and Brock Raffaele. The Viking forecheck proved to be to much for Big Rapids and Cadillac opened the scoring on two shorthanded goals by Morris, assisted by Brock and then the third goal on a power play by Cadillac's Adam Hodges. Later in the first period Cardinal sophomore Tom Hancock found the back of the net from a Michael Hickson face off win, to narrow the score 3 to 1. Shots on goal in the period proved to be the difference as the Vikings had 14 to the Cardinals' 6. The flow of the game changed in the 2nd period as Cadillac took several penalties. Big Rapids had several power play advantages, including 5 on 3's, but just could not beat Cadillacs goal tender Micky Malmborg and it was the Vikings whom lite the lamp on another shorthanded goal by Morris, his third short handed goal of the night and at the period break it was Cadillac 4, Big Rapids 1. In the third period we saw a 5 on 3 goal by Big Rapids and 2 more goals by the Vikings, as both teams marched to the penalty box several times to give each other these scoring opportunities. Tom Hancock scored for the Cardinals with a 5 on 3 goal at 14.08 of the third with assists from Jordan Defever and Michael Hickson and Cadillac got goals from Raffaele at the 11:10 mark and a power play goal by Sean Kennedy at the 7:25 mark. Cadillac outshot the Cardinals 40 to 17 in the game, with half of those shots against Cardinal goaltender Bob Butterfield coming from Viking power plays. Malmborg gets the win for Cadillac. Cadillac is idle on Saturday and Big Rapids travels to Kalkaska to take on the Traverse Bay Reps...after all, its Hockey Night in West Michigan!
