Partisan Mona Shores students and fans who journeyed to the Lakeshore Sports Centre in Muskegon were rewarded Saturday afternoon, not only with free tie-dyed promotional shirts but also with an offensive blitzkrieg by the host Sailors. Despite a valiant effort and some hard hitting by the visiting Forest Hills North/East Huskies, the Sailors outshot their opponents and, but more importantly, put better numbers up on the shiny Meijer scoreboard.
The Sailors' senior wing Ryan “Mensa” Burmeister broke the seal on the guests’ goal with a first period score, assisted by JC “Optimus Prime” Boyd and Adam “Made in Canada” Meloche. Iron Mike Soto continued to treat the student section to the instrumental version of Anchor’s Away, a song destined to haunt the memories of the visiting fans from Forest Hills, with his own contribution to a 3-0 first period, and there was no looking back for the Sailors. Soto’s goal was assisted by Boyd, who garnered five stickers on his helmet for the night. Tyler “Young Fabio” McCarl rounded out the scoring in the first period on FHNE sophomore goalie Ian Jester, with assistance from Boyd.
The second period, which before this contest had been a source of frustration for the Sailors, instead resulted in two more goals, the first by game puck recipient Burmeister, with love from Soto and Boyd; and then conversely, Boyd from Soto. FHNE’s captain Luke Swardenski made an impressive move on Shore’s goalie Scottie “Too Hotty” Tiefenthal in the second for the first of FHNE’s goals, which he scored while shorthanded.
The third period featured continued acrobatics from the flexible Tiefenthal, who reclaimed his mojo while turning away nine shots by the Huskies, refusing 18 total over the course of the game. FHNE added a red lighter from Andrew Rennaker, hollered back by the Sailors David “Chicken Dance” Coppock, with a little help from his friends Austin “Despised by Goalie’s Moms throughout Michigan” Zaloga and Brock “Obama” Carlston.
Shots into the benches resulting in ducking coaches were even for the game, with two each on the home and visitors side, and total number of hits resulting in ejected mouthpieces favored the Huskies at 3-1, including one showstopper by Soto which sent a Huskie airborne in the Superman pose favored by extreme cyclists and not often seen at the rink.
The Sailors next game is Saturday, January 5 against Rockford at Walker.

to the writer of these articles: please stop putting in stupid names for the players- it's ridiculous, and the general public who reads this that has no "insider knowledge" as to how these nicknames came about find it foolish.
I like the nicknames, keeps a light side to the games, and pretty funny for those with "insider knowledge" on the nicknames. If you do not like them, ignore them.
