Forest Hills N/E 5 East Grand Rapids 1

Forest Hills Northern/Eastern turned it up a notch -- okay, actually it was several notches -- in the third period to earn a 5-1 win against East Grand Rapids. Senior Andrew Rennaker turned a hat trick, and goalie Sean Winks had 18 saves for Forest Hills.

The teams played even at 1-1 through two periods, with FHN/E getting on the board first on a goal from Rennaker two minutes into the second period. East answered four minutes later with a PP goal by sophomore Drew O'Brien. FHN/E put the pressure on, but Pioneer goalie Ian McDonald was up to the task with 12 saves in the period.

In the third period, though, Forest Hills used its speed and talent to break open the game. Matt McSween scored at the 3:53 mark (assists to Danny Hamilton and Jeff Johnston), then Rennaker added his second of the night a few minute later, with assists going to Jake Sedalbauer and Luke Swardenski. Rennaker scored on the powerplay with just over three minutes left, and then younger brother Max Rennaker capped the scoring with a 1:31 left.
