A well fought contest throughout the game. Special teams proved to be the difference in this contest. Big Rapids gets on the board first with 4:35 left in the period on a short-handed goal from Mike Hickson, with the assist going to Tom Hancock after an aggressive fore-check /steal /pass. Big Rapids wasted no time and scored again shortly thereafter, this time on a power play goal by Billy McMullen, with the assist coming from a Nick Goodfellow's point shot that was deflected by Hancock and then blasted top shelf by McMullen.
Going into the 2 nd period, the Cardinals were up 2-0 until the Titans' Keanon Kelly scored on a Big Rapids turnover, the assist going to Logan Hollow. The 2nd period was highlighted by special team efforts from both teams. The period produced several power play opportunities, with Big Rapids even holding JLC to a "no shot" 5 on 3 effort. Bob Butterfield, who was in net for the Cardinals made several big saves in the period, including 7 power play shot saves.
The third and final period proved to be the difference in the game as both teams fought to gain momentum. The momentum finally did swing to Jackson Lumen Christi when they scored a shorthanded goal on a rebound shot with about 5 minutes left in the period. With the score 2 to 2 and late into the period the Cardinals again found the back of the net on a Mike Hickson goal, with the assist coming from the point off a Billy McMullen pass. The Cardinals hung on, as Butterfield again made some spectacular saves, 23 on the night to be exact…14 of those coming on Titan power plays. Big Rapids welcomed back the play of Paul Goggins, whom had been out the first part of the season with a torn ACL. Big Rapids moves to 3 and 8 on the year after playing the likes of: Flint Powers, Monroe St. Mary's, Divine Child, Grosse Ile, Wyandotte Roosevelt and Pontiac Notre Dame Prep.
